The Ravenite
FON Wolfe Pack Oath:
"I take this series to be my favorite show on television, to watch and to
enjoy, its characters to nurture and to appreciate, through good episodes and not-so-good
episodes, until it concludes in its first-run telecasts and lives again in reruns, til
universal power failures and television sets do us part."
RWFP: 1999-2001

A Tale of Two Series
We were the best of fans, we were the worst of fans, we were the gauge of immortal
wisdom,we were the gauge of cyber foolishness, it was our epoch of grief, it was our epoch
of hope. This was our season of Light, it was our season of Darkness, an autumn of hope,
after a spring of despair. We had Amanda before us, but no Duncan or Methos, were directed
to The Raven, were all bent on old ways
In short it was the lull
between the end and the beginning, the uncomfortable suspension of disbelief between
Season Five point five of
Highlander: The Series
and Season One of
Highlander: The Raven.
Superlative degrees of comparison aside,
through the cyber-dust aswirl in blue light came a yahoo interview with Paul Johansson,
who plays Amanda's new pard, Nick Wolfe. He was a new face (for most): an unknown
character in an unfamiliar show. He let it slip that he had visited our cyber-Forums and
was startled by the knee-jerk dislike of a new guy on the block, a character as yet
unrevealed.
For some, the horror and shame were too much to
bear. Remembered words boomed in our heads: "The nicest, most considerate, most
warm-hearted fans ever." In our grief at the loss of our show, as we sang "Blue
Christmas" and "Auld Lang Syne" with unprecedented sincerity, Highlander fans made a new member of the Highlander universe feel unwelcome!
All became clear. R FON Wolfe
Pack was born. May we deserve and live up to the reputation above described
by an old familiar in the Highlander universe. Amanda
gets better and better: she grows, she evolves before us. We miss Duncan.
We miss Methos. Let us put aside all scalp-scraping, pyre-lighting mourning,
and give Nick a chance too. After all, he is but mortal! |
