Words from Alpha
Big John posted on the Forum a list of five things he hopes to learn by going to Chronicles 99, which reminded me of the main purpose of travel, which is learning. "Tend your garden," says Voltaire (with some irony). "Simplify your life" proclaim magazines, "take care of yourself," assert new age gurus and self help books. In this midst of voices telling us to reduce our world to the smallest unit, what can roving in foreign lands offer us?  Escape.
Like escapist fiction, film, and television, it presents an out, from under the weight of daily drudgery, pressure, duty, anxiety, all of which distract us from the roses we are supposed to stop and smell.
What does a clever immortal do to uncomplicate his or her full schedule of duels? Leave the country, of course!  The things I learn again and again from travel and fiction are simple. I learn to live out of a box: I learn to forage without a fridge, to carry my belongings with me and lay claim to nothing I cannot carry.
Television box or suitcase, both offer the simplicity of the moment, the things that are here and now, a marvelous limitation on deadly, confusing options. It is not a full life, the boxed life, but it is a clear one.
Respectfully, Petshark, alpha leader RFWP

THIS MONTH AT THE RFWP
A special thanks to everyone for their interest and support in the success of the newsletter, and a welcome to all the new Wolves and Possums (all you "A Matter of Time" and "French Connection" converts  :>))  We're very pleased with the success of our recent RFWP international membership campaign, and proud to announce that we now have 68 Pack members! ! First and foremost, be sure to visit  the Howly Ground Pack Forum, we're moving most of our activity there now since who knows how long Rysher will support their  Raven forum.  There's lots of stuff in the Reading Room, be sure to scroll down to the second shelf.  Also we are now in three web rings: the MacMINT Webring, the Raven Webring, and the Highlander Webring.  The popup banners are gone.   Additions to the site are determined largely by what members submit, which are compiled into a section on the site (look forward to a gallery of wolf drawings courtesy of the Rosal clan!).   Due to the popularity of last month's trivia game, Georgette Trollster has generously created a new trivia game for us again this month.  (Click on the link to play)  You'll have two weeks to play, and we'll be announcing the winner in the April issue of the newsletter.  A new section of the RFWP  Raven W.A.T.C.H.   site has been added called The Watched, preserving Rysher's episode publicity stills available for anyone's use.  Contributions for photo captions and private screen captures are more than welcome additions.   The Watchers section went online in January adding a more personal touch to the RFWP Wolves and Possums, where you can get an up close and personal look at your fellow Pack members (And if you haven't contributed a bio for the Watcher page, please consider doing so.)

"I just *love* this RFWP Newsletter!"

SPECIAL REMINDER!!
St. Patrick's Day is on March 17th.  No day off work, but hey, any day they serve green beer (and of course, green 7-Up for the designated drivers) in all the Irish bars (and on that day, all bars are Irish bars) is worth mention.  If you're going to be out celebrating, remember to party safely.  See Jette's "Holiday Notes from Scotland" below to see how they celebrate St. Paddy's Day there. \

Holiday Notes from Scotland:
(contributed by Jette)
In the UK, you won't find many big celebrations of St. Patrick's  Day.  It's a pretty low key event (but on the whole we are low key people).  A few of the Irish theme pubs might have cheap beer and live music and *maybe* some of the tv newsreaders will wear a shamrock, but we won't be out  in the street *celebrating our Irishness*.  We don't send  St. Patrick's day greeting cards and we don't have parades.  Not everyone would appreciate a St. Patrick's Day card at any rate - remember the official religion of both Scotland  and England is Protestant and does not acknowledge saints of any kind.   March is also the month of St. David's Day (1st March), which is the Welsh national day.  The flower to wear for this is a Daffodil - or a leek (yes, the vegetable).  The Welsh do make a big noise on St. .David's Day.  Stand near a male voice choir and hear  how big a noise! :-)  The Welsh like their singing and their rugby.  March 21st is our Mothering Sunday, so if you have friends in the UK you'd like to wish a Happy Mothers Day, this is the time. Again we're pretty low key - flowers, chocolates and cards. Breakfast in bed from the kiddies? Maybe.  Cornflakes and toast - no big productions.

RAVEN EPISODE OF THE MONTH
It really has to be "A MATTER OF TIME"  this month doesn't it, although it's a tough choice between that and "French Connection."  This is the episode that made "Wolves" out of a lot of viewers.  It was great to see Joe again, doin' his Watcher thing.   Not to mention Valentine Pelka being "recycled" in true Highlander fashion as a truly  memorable K'Immie, Andre Korda.  And let's be honest now, who wasn't waiting for "The Kiss?"  (And well worth the wait, hmm?)  Seeing Nick by the Seine was a heart catching moment, especially when you saw a barge behind him, and the montage sequence of his memories of Amanda made you feel his pain.  Amanda and Joe play extremely well off each other, seem to be very comfortable old friends, almost familial.  The hostility between Nick and Joe could prove to be an interesting relationship if Jim becomes a recurring character, which we'd  all love to see happen; wouldn't you love to see how Nick reacts to Joe the next time he sees him- after Joe having lied about Amanda's death?

.WHO'S DOIN' WHAT
Night Owlis struggling to master Photoshop 5, but so far Photoshop seems to be winning~~)<8; Kalaki's Paul Johansson site is back up, and better than ever!  She has some frus you've just got to see!  Lurksalot has just completed her Shadowlove site and it's well worth bookmarking to visit often.  Hildebryn just passed her national licensing exam and is now an officially licensed optician!  Plus, in March and April she'll be making a brief visit to England to visit her sister, who's working in Cambridge.  Brena Rosal's daughter Darleen is almost a Wolf because she taped French Connection for her mom so Brena could go out for Valentine's Day.  Darleen also has drawn some very good Wolf & Raven pictures, which will be available at the RFWP soon.   Firinn has been busy developing a site for Paul Johansson's short film Conversations in Limbo.  Harmonica has a new Raven Screen Captures page with some wonderful pics of Paul Johansson, Valentine Pelka, Jim Byrnes, and Hannes Jaenicke.  By all means, you have to check out this page!   There have been new fanfic additions at the The Raven's Nest; as well as a cast page with a comprehensive listing of the regular and guest cast-great reference material!  Watcher too is working on a "Commemorative Raven Screen Saver."  If you'd like a copy, please e-mail her and she'll send it to you.  Before leaving for Chronicles 99 Petshark sent Raven tapes to Australia and Hawaii, that the Raven may carry her message to the far reaches of tvland!

Father Liam
(contributed by Colleen)
I first saw Robert in "Cadfael: Virgin in the Ice."  He was so charmingly handsome.  Quite by accident, I rented "Cold Light of Day" because I like Richard Grant, and there was Robert in a single scene.  After that, I went looking for information about him on the web, but alas, my search was frustrating as I found only a tidbit here or there.  So, having a nice new computer in my living room, I collected all the information I could find, learned some HTML and let'er rip with my first fan page!  I continue to add to Robert's page.  The site is getting regular traffic.  I have links to a couple of web rings and other sites.  I have had two requests from Europe from people searching for copies of Wuthering Heights and Platinum on video.  Robert's page has become something of a team effort as there are other fans who regularly report in with photos or information. I really am enjoying connecting with people online..
It was a pleasure to see Robert in Highlander: The Raven.  It's nice that his character, Liam, didn't get killed off, so he may be invited back for future episodes.  I hope so.  And I haven't watched the show before, so I was pleasantly surprised.  I enjoyed the humorous bickering and romance between Amanda and Nick.  And I like the way she fights!  Those fans are really something.

Q#EDITORIAL
What we still have to look forward to

Undoubtedly "Timeless" is one of the all time favorites of Highlander: The Series, and like most other "mush" subjects we see on TV or in the movies, the line ALWAYS comes up about do you have a year left to die, or a year left to live. You know what I'm talking about here, I'm sure... So, IMHO (and NOT putting on flame-retardant suit because I really don't care how those perpetual naysayers feel about this other than to think they're missing a wonderful time) Highlander: The Raven is only on episode 15 this week, with SEVEN more new episodes to go.  Seven MORE we haven't seen, which will begin the first week of April (what a NICE spring surprise), and really something to look forward to. Those episodes are already finished, and I for one plan on celebrating The Raven through the very final first-run episode, even if I celebrate alone, and send it off with a big smashing finale party in thanks to a wonderful cast and crew for a very fun year of television... Should we consider a mini-con perhaps? (haha) As to Forum boards, let's NOT forget the RFWP Forum, which has been online for about a month now thanks to Petshark's most diligent efforts, and it would be most suiting for us all to gather there.

COMING NEXT MONTH
An "awards ceremony" for The Raven is being considered for next month, so be giving some thought to your favorite episodes, scenes, quickenings, etc.; and stay tuned for continuing updates on the series renewal process in the April issue.  Be sure to spend some time at the RFWP forum, Howly Ground, things are really heating up over there. Paul Johansson  may actually honor us with a visit (unconfirmed, but a real possibility). Plus, Losin it is working on a project that should prove very interesting.
